Arthur Capper Community Center

A certified LEED gold community center located on 1000 5th street, SE that boasts a new gym, soft-floored exercise rooms, workout rooms, meeting spaces, day care center suite, warming kitchen, computer lab and arts and crafts spaces-all found within its huge 18,000-square foot enclosing. With Centennial as the general contractor, Blackwood of DC handled all the building concrete work and site work to provide a complete concrete package ready for turnover to client.

Stuart Hobson Middle School + Field work

Stuart-Hobson’s arts integration and museum program serves students in the sixth through eighth grade, combining the warmth of a neighborhood school with a full range of academics and extracurricular activities. With Broughton Construction as the general contractor for the Stuart Hobson Middle School & Field project, Blackwood of DC was tasked with constructing the exterior concrete structure to support the new athletic field and seating facility.

Washington National Youth Baseball Academy

With Turner as the General Contractor, The Washington National Youth Baseball Academy was completed in 2014 and cost nearly $18 million. An 18,000-square-foot, two-floor facility, that third and fourth graders fill to capacity after school to learn how to play baseball and softball on its three artificial turf fields. The academy has a college-sized stadium that seats 500 people with two adjacent smaller fields for softball or Little League. There is a 4,800-square foot indoor fitness area with a padded turf floor and two collapsible batting cages.

Snider Residence

A complex and high-risk type of project that Blackwood of DC embraces. The Snider Family had for years searched for a contractor to replace the failing concrete retaining wall separating their property from their neighbor and after many incompatible matches with concrete subcontractor, Blackwood of DC ended up fitting the bill.
